Cost calculator 2026

Cost calculator: how much will your website or web app cost?

A website costs from €1,490 as a one-page site or €3,490–6,000 as a business website; a web app starts at €5,990 and a customer portal typically costs €8,000–15,000. Choose a project type and features below – the calculator immediately shows a price range, the expected timeline and what drives the price. It uses the same figures I use when I prepare an offer.

Your project in five answers

1. What should be built?

Included: up to 10 pages

e.g. CRM, accounting, external API

In addition to the first language

5. What else do you need?

How much does each type of project cost?

The table shows the standard ranges the calculator starts from – readable without JavaScript. The lower bound is the starting price, the upper bound a typical project with more scope.

How does the calculator work?

Every project type has a standard scope with a price range. The lower bound is my starting price; the upper bound is what a project of this kind typically costs once more coordination, content or special requests come in.

Anything beyond the standard scope is calculated as effort in hours times my hourly rate (€95 per hour). Each option has a range, because a login with two roles is less work than one with five roles and approval steps.

The timeline is the typical number of weeks for the project type plus the extra effort, spread over the hours I reserve for your project each week. I freelance alongside my main job, so I plan with fixed weekly capacity rather than promises nobody can keep.

Extra effort is rounded to €50; base prices are shown exactly as published. All prices are final prices: as a small business under § 19 of the German VAT Act, I do not charge VAT.

Pages and features

For websites, every additional page with its own content counts; for web apps, every additional feature such as an export, a dashboard or a notification workflow. The clearer the scope before we start, the more precise the fixed price.

Login, roles and permissions

As soon as users sign in, you need registration, password reset, protection of stored data and often several roles with different permissions. For web apps and customer portals this is included in the base price.

Online payments

I integrate payments with Stripe – on YachtBrokerBid, for example, with Hosted Checkout and server-side verification. Effort mainly comes from special cases such as partial refunds, subscriptions or credit balances.

Integrations

Every connection to another system (CRM, accounting, inventory, external API) needs coordination, testing and error handling. Well-documented APIs are quick to connect; legacy systems without documentation take considerably longer.

CMS and multiple languages

A CMS pays off when your content changes often. Every additional language means a second content structure, its own URLs and hreflang tags for Google – the translation itself is not part of the estimate.

Design, SEO and maintenance

A custom design is always included, even for a one-page site. An extended design system with illustrations or animation costs more. The SEO package goes beyond basic optimisation: keyword research, page structure, structured data and Search Console. Maintenance is calculated as hours per month.

How do these prices compare with the market?

Freelancers are usually much cheaper than agencies because there is no project management overhead. Market ranges from my experience for orientation (German market, see guide):

  • Website built by a freelancer: 800–5.000 €
  • MVP for a start-up: 10.000–25.000 €

What is not included in the estimate?

  • Hosting and domain are booked by you – I tell you exactly what you need and set everything up. Expect €5–20 per month for a website and €20–100 per month for a web app.
  • Copy and photos are usually provided by you. If they are missing, I write them based on a short conversation or work with a copywriter – that is extra effort and extends the timeline.
  • Licence fees for paid services (for example payment provider fees, map services or newsletter tools) are paid directly to the provider.

Cost calculator FAQ

It gives you a range for orientation. It uses the same prices and hourly rate I use when I write an offer. You get a binding fixed price after the free initial call, once scope and content are clear.

Because I do not sell templates: even the one-page website gets a custom design. The calculator therefore only distinguishes between the standard custom design and an extended design with a design system, illustrations or animation.

A website starts at €1,490, a web app at €5,990. The difference comes from the database, login, business logic and tests – a web app is a program, a website is mainly a presentation.

All prices are in euros. I work from Augsburg, Germany, with clients on site in Augsburg and Munich and remotely elsewhere. As a small business under § 19 of the German VAT Act, I do not charge VAT. Payment terms are agreed in the fixed-price offer.
