How much does a website relaunch cost? Prices, process and how to keep your rankings
A relaunch of a business website usually costs €3,490–6,000 with me and takes 4 to 6 weeks; a small site rebuilt as a one-pager starts at €1,490. What sets a relaunch apart from a brand-new website is everything that has to survive the move: content, URLs, Google rankings and inbound links. This guide shows which items drive the price, what the process looks like and which steps stop your visibility from collapsing after the switch.

When does a relaunch make sense?
- The website is hard to use on a phone or loads slowly.
- It is barely found on Google, even though there is demand for what you offer.
- There is no easy way to get in touch or send an enquiry.
- The system is outdated, updates are no longer possible, or nobody knows how to maintain it.
- Your offering has changed, and the site still tells the old story.
Which items determine the cost of a relaunch?
How much new features change the price is calculated directly by the cost calculator with the project type “Relaunch”. Prices for an entirely new website are in the guide How much does a website cost?.
| Item | What it includes | Effect on cost |
|---|---|---|
| Audit of the existing site | Recording all old URLs, content, rankings and links | Low, but essential |
| Concept and design | New structure, custom design | As for a new website |
| Content migration | Reviewing, shortening and reorganising copy; optimising images | Rises with the number of pages |
| Redirects | Every old URL to the matching new page | Rises with the number of pages |
| New features | Form, booking, CMS, multiple languages | Depends on scope – see the cost calculator |
| Launch and monitoring | Watching Search Console, indexing and error pages | Low |
Relaunch of a business website: €3,490–6,000, 4–6 weeks. All prices are final prices; as a small business under § 19 of the German VAT Act, I do not charge VAT.
How do you keep your Google rankings during a relaunch?
- Save all old URLs beforehand – from the sitemap, Search Console and a crawl of the old site.
- Set up a 301 redirect for every old URL to the new page with matching content, not a blanket redirect to the home page.
- Deliberately carry over or improve the titles, descriptions and headings of pages that already rank today – do not change them at random.
- Submit a new sitemap and monitor indexing in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
- Also notify Bing of new and changed pages via IndexNow – Bing is the basis for search in ChatGPT and Copilot.
- Check error pages (404s) during the first few weeks and add any missing redirects.
What did the DARMEL relaunch show?
The cleaning company DARMEL e. K. had a website that was barely visible on Google and offered no way of getting in touch. I replaced it within three weeks with a new, responsive website: a dedicated landing page for each cleaning service and location – 51 pages for ten services in five towns – each with its own title, its own description and a clear heading structure, plus a GDPR-compliant contact form.
On mobile, the home page achieves Lighthouse scores of 90 (performance) and 100 (SEO), measured on 14 September 2026. According to the client, search performance on Google has doubled since the relaunch, and enquiries arrive at the company directly through the form.
The lesson: a relaunch is the best opportunity to align the structure with what your customers actually search for. If you only swap the design instead, you pay for a fresh coat of paint and keep the old problems.
How does a relaunch work?
- Initial call and audit: what works today, what does not, which pages bring in visitors?
- Structure and design: new page structure, redirect list and custom design.
- Build at a test address where you can see progress along the way.
- Migrate and improve content, set up redirects, have the legal texts reviewed.
- Switchover: go live, submit the sitemap, monitor indexing, fix any errors.
What does a relaunch involve legally and technically?
- Update the legal notice and privacy policy for the new website – especially if new services such as forms, maps or analytics tools are added.
- A cookie banner only where it is genuinely needed: a website without third-party tracking can often do without one.
- SSL certificate, redirect from http to https and one consistent address, either with or without www.
- Keep backups of the old website until the new one is running smoothly.
- If the relaunch turns into an application with accounts or workflows, it is more a case for web app development than for a plain website.
Relaunch or rebuild – which is cheaper?
For very small or outdated websites without significant rankings, a rebuild is often simpler: there is little to carry over, and a new one-page website starts at €1,490 with me. As soon as your old site gets visitors from Google or is linked from other sites, a relaunch with clean redirects is a must – otherwise you throw away visibility you have built up.
If what really lies behind the relaunch is an application – customer accounts, bookings, workflows – it is worth looking at the question Laravel or WordPress?.
